About Meadow Creek Farms - James Troyer started farming at age 13, growing a half acre of produce on his parents’ farm.  Now, 18 years later, he grows 20 acres of regenerative, organic certified strawberries, blackberries, and mixed veggies.  He uses the AEA program, sending off plant tissue samples every two weeks during the growing season to dial in his nutrient applications.   James propagates all of his strawberries on the farm making Meadow Creek Farms a closed system, not introducing any plant material onto the property.  He’s had no exposure to neopestalotiopsis at this time and will be contract growing all of our strawberry plugs for us on his farm.

Chandler (June Bearing)

  • Most common berry historically grown in NC
  • Full, sweet flavor
  • Produces a high yielding crop early in the season
  • Firm berries easy for picking, transporting, and freezing
  • Hardiness Zones 5-8

Flavorfest (June Bearing)

  • Grower favorite for flavor, disease resistance, productivity, and low input needs!
  • Remarkably vigorous plants that require less care than other varieties and lower fertility needs (Be careful not to over fertilize.)
  • Highly resistance to disease including red stele and anthracnose, making this a great choice for organic production
  • Hardiness Zones 4-7

Galletta (June Bearing)

  • Strong, vigorous variety
  • Produces large, beautiful, shiny berries
  • Tough enough to handle cold winters and heavy soils
  • Resistant to leaf diseases and red stele

Albion (Everbearing)

  • Resistant to verticillium wilt and phytophthora crown rot and shows some resistance to anthracnose

Seascape (Everbearing)

  • Grower favorite!  James described seascape as a plant “you could take a baseball bat to” and not kill it.
  • Large, firm, exceptional tasting berries.  Meadow Creek Farms customers report this is their favorite tasting everbearing strawberry.
  • Consistently productive, top performing day-neutral variety

Note for Organic Production:  Meadow Creek Farms is an organic certified farm.  Organic certification paperwork will be supplied for anyone who needs it upon receipt of plants in the fall.

Strawberry CutOffs

What is a strawberry cut off?  Think of a bare root with a hair cut removing all of the above ground leaf matter.   Cut offs require plasticulture, a planting tool and some special care to establish.   They offer scale and affordability for larger strawberry producers.  We do not recommend them for home gardeners.

See our resource on how to plant and care for cut offs.

About Lassen Canyon: Lassen Canyon Nursery has been a key producer of California strawberries and has been in the strawberry business for 70 years.   We have known multiple local farmers who have successfully grown Lassen Canyon strawberry plants for several years, and that’s why when the neopestalotiopsis outbreak happened last year, we called Lassen Canyon to help us out.   Lassen Canyon does not source any plant material outside of California.  Their plants are free of neopestalotiopsis.

*CA Shipping - Because we started an initial order this winter, we have been promised our plants will ship on one of the first trucks headed to the East Coast this fall.  We anticipate this to happen the first week of October, but it will be weather dependent.  At the time of shipping, we will be quoted a shipping fee.  We will allocate that fee per box to everyone’s order, estimated to be $16-20/1000 plants.   We will be able to give you a 3-5 day heads up as to when plants will arrive.   If you are picking up at our store, we ask that you pick up your cut offs the same day they arrive.  If you are on our delivery routes, we will make every effort to deliver your cut offs to you within 48 hours of their arrival to us.   You should plan to plant your cut offs as soon as you receive them.

About the Varieties:

Ruby Junes -

  • Local favorite
  • Sweet berries
  • Upright plant structure

Lassen Canyon was where it all started!  This is the nursery that holds the patent on these plants. We placed an initial order with Lassen Canyon in January to contract grow Ruby Junes for us.  From this order, we still have several thousand extras available.  Orders will be filled on a first come first serve basis.  We will confirm availability once your order is placed.

Fronteras -

  • Giant berries
  • Easy to pick
  • Highly productive
  • Early season berries were not as sweet, but once mature and fully ripe, Fronteras are a satisfying, sweet, flavorful berry.

Many NC farmers grew Fronteras for the first time in 2024-25 after losing their initial plant orders due to an outbreak of neopestalotiopsis.   Although initially farmers were concerned about their “commercial” reputation of being a less sweet “grocery store” variety, Fronteras have won over several farmers who have switched their Ruby June orders to Fronteras after seeing their performance in the field.  These GIANT berries are easy to pick and highly productive, sending off runners with additional berries for a longer harvest season.  Early season berries were not as sweet, but once mature and fully ripe, Fronteras are a satisfying, sweet, flavorful berry.

Note for Organic Production:  Lassen Canyon does not offer certified organic plants.  However, because these plants are removed from the soil and because Fronteras and Ruby Junes are not currently commercially available as organic certified plant stock, they are commonly approved for organic production.  As always, check with your certifier for approval before sourcing.
