2026 strawberry plugs & cut offs

We are pleased to be working with Cottle Farms and Lassen Canyon Nursery again for strawberry plugs and cut off plants!

Cottle Farm Strawberry Plugs

What is a strawberry plug?
A plug is a small, rooted plant in a soil "plug," similar to what you would see vegetable transplants sold in multi-packs our of their containers. These plants are easy to transplant and don't require covered beds or planting tools, making them a great choice for home gardeners and smaller scale farmers!

A 50% nonrefundable deposit on ALL orders is due by July 18. 
Delivery Handling Fee: For Plug Trays: $1.50 per tray, not to exceed the maximum delivery fee for a group stop or farm stop.

What is a strawberry cut off?
A cut off is essentially a bare root with a haircut - all of the leaf matter has been removed, leaving only the stems and the roots. These plants offer scalability and affordability, but require plasticulture, a planting tool, and special care taken while they establish. Given these specialized needs, we do not recommend them for home gardeners. For more information on planting, visit our page on Strawberry Cut Offs.

*CA Shipping - If you’ve ordered Lassen Canyon plants from us in the past, you are aware that we have traditionally billed the shipping fee later.  This year, shipping is already built into the above price which reflects the total amount you will pay.   Because we started an initial order earlier this spring, we have been promised our plants will ship on one of the first trucks headed to the East Coast this fall.  We anticipate this happening the first week of October, but it will be weather dependent.  We will have a 3-5 day heads up as to when plants will arrive.   If you are picking up at our store, we ask that you pick up your cut offs the same day they arrive.  If you are on our delivery routes, we will make every effort to deliver your cut offs to you within 48 hours of their arrival to us.   You should plan to plant your cut offs as soon as you receive them.

Lassen Canyon Strawberry Cut-Off *SPRING* Orders Have Closed!

In addition to our summer order period, we also commit numbers for Lassen Canyon Strawberry Cut-Offs in the early spring season. The deadline for this opportunity has passed. However, if you see a variety below that you are interested in, please email Melinda directly at melinda@chathamfarmsupply.com. Some previously committed quantities may now be available. 

This year, we’ve planned two shipments from California:

  • An early shipment for growers in the Northern Piedmont, where the planting window is short (limited to Fronteras and Ruby Junes).
  • A second shipment with a broader varietal selection.

  • Expected: Early October
  • Box Sizes: Half Boxes (~500 plants) and Whole Boxes (~1,000 plants)

About the Variety List

You can find detailed varietal information on the Lassen Canyon Nursery website. While Lassen Canyon grows many additional varieties, this list was curated in collaboration with an experienced local grower. Selections are based on flavor, Southeastern growing conditions, and regional disease pressure. Some varieties that perform well in California or Florida do not do well here, so we’ve intentionally left those off.

Pricing & Payment

Pricing has not yet been released. Lassen Canyon typically sets 2026–27 pricing later this spring. We have no indication that pricing will fluctuate wildly from previous years.

Once pricing is available:

  • We will send order confirmations.
  • A 50% deposit will be required to finalize the order.

For now, we simply need a firm commitment on your plant numbers.

About Lassen Canyon:

Lassen Canyon Nursery has been a key producer of California strawberries and has been in the strawberry business for 70 years.   We have known multiple local farmers who have successfully grown Lassen Canyon strawberry plants for several years, and that’s why when the neopestalotiopsis outbreak happened last year, we called Lassen Canyon to help us out.   Lassen Canyon does not source any plant material outside of California.  Their plants are free of neopestalotiopsis.

Note for Organic Production:  Lassen Canyon does not offer certified organic plants.  However, because these plants are removed from the soil and because Fronteras and Ruby Junes are not currently commercially available as organic certified plant stock, they are commonly approved for organic production.  As always, check with your certifier for approval before sourcing.
